Our Ettan, Loose Review

Manufactured by Swedish match in Göteborg, Sweden, Ettan loose snus was introduced to the world back in 1822 with a flavor that has been basically unchanged since then. Ettan Original is classified as a as a coarse ground snus which means that the tobacco pieces are a bit larger than the fine grind type. This leaves the surface area of each piece larger and easier to mold into a prilla. Also, coarser ground snus tends to hold a prilla’s shape longer no matter if you use a tool or hand shape it. The prilla we tested was made with a 3 ml tool and kept its shape for over 2 hours before it began to fall apart but the flavor could have lasted much longer! Each can of Ettan loose contains 45 grams of snus with a Nicotine content of 8 mg per gram. The can is made of the same traditional paperboard bottom with a thin layer of food grade paraffin wax to keep the snus fresh. The lid is made from gold colored plastic and makes a pretty good seal with the bottom but, enough about the can, let’s talk about the flavor! Ettan is one of Sweden’s oldest snus brands with a flavor that’s basically been unchanged since 1822 and carries on the flavor tradition with a basic recipe of Tobacco, water and salt. The only addition to the original recipe is a smoky flavor! This smoky flavoring, along with the flavors of high grade tobaccos from around the world and salt, creates a one of a kind flavor that combines the peaty, leathery flavor of the tobacco with the slight smoky flavor to create hints of dark, bitter chocolate in the lip as well as in the nose! Actually, when you first open a can of Ettan loose, the scent you get is of a dark, European chocolate as opposed to the rich tobacco that is the first flavor you taste when in the lip but, this is what we taste.
